Started my first smokehouse build today. Got all my honeydoos done and after collecting up supplies had about an hour to start the build. Hopefully have the rest of the weeks afternoons and weekend to get a good start. Supposed to only be in the high thirties for the rest of the week so it will be nice to have a warm shop to build in. Have gotten what i think are a lot of great ideas from this site and hopefully this will turn out alright. Will post more photos as this comes along.

Looking forward to your build.

Using plywood I had leftover from a renovation job on my home. No its not my garage it is a shop at our farm place down the road. Haha wish it was at my house though.

Looks pretty substantial!!

Got the insulation and walls finished today. Question I have is what kind of airflow do you need in these. I have a 4x12 diffuser for the burn chamber door and one for the upper door. I will also have a 6" smoke stack for the roof. I plan on using a northern tool gas burner and AMNPS. The inside dimensions are about 3'x3'x6.

Looking really good. I've often wondered about adding interior lights in smokehouses, do plan on putting one in? If so does it need to be a high temp unit? I'd think it would be handy. What is the side box for?

I am not that big on electric stuff but would think if there is a light in an oven you could put on in a smoker as long as the temps didn't get to hot. a really good idea and now you got me thinking. The side box is for the propane tank. Actually moving the unit to my house tomorrow. Still waiting for the burner and regulator to get here. Gonna wait till I smoke in it a couple times to finish the outside of it. Wanna make sure I don't have to make any adjustments.

I saw one on Facebook once that had the bulb covered by a mason jar. The jar could be unscrewed and washed once in a while.

Got the rack in with expanded metal to hold drip pans.

Bottom diffuser in.

Bent the metal to act as a drip edge and protect the edges of the roof.

Put tiles on the bottom for the burner to sit on. Tomorrow will be hauling it to the house and installing the chimney .

I know that the units for ovens are rated for 500+/-  and you can get them from appliance repair shops. I don't have very good outdoor lighting where my smoker is and always wish I didn't need my flashlight! Looking forward to seeing your first smoke!
