Hi everyone. I have the burner from northern tool like a few others here are using. My question is, will it be big enough for a 48x3x6foot smokehouse. House will be 5/8 ply with no insulation. Will make smaller if i have to. Also would like to get to 250 degrees. Thanks for your input

My smokehouse was ply and never exceeded 180. Temps at 200 and above and the ply will start leaching toxins. If you want high temps from a wood smokehouse i would suggest solid lumber like oak.

I would line the interior with a solid wood. If oak is not in you budget you could use, pine, cypress, or cedar. Or just use the solid wood for siding. T&G material works really good. For a dedicated cold smoker plywood is okay, but not for a hot smoker.

The information available from here, http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/88853/found-a-burner-for-smokehouse  beggs to differ on using ply for a smokehouse, It al depends on the type of ply you use.

As far as the burner in question, My smokehouse is 4ftx4ftx6ft, and in the winter that burner will only get me to around 200-220. It works great and I use it for doing sausage and snack sticks, but have a different burner for 225-250 required for everything else.

Yes as shown in Pops thread you can build a hot smoker out of plywood.  One thing his thread doesn't mention, anywhere is the issues of plywood off gassing. The exterior ply Pops used is better than UF glued plywood (exterior ply has phenol formaldehyde in the glue). You can still get leaching of the toxins at higher temperatures from the PF glued plywood. Only using non-formaldehyde glued plywood such as PureBond would solve the issue of off gassing.
