Greetings! My name is John and I new to this forum and real BBQ. I used to grill and yes, I called it BBQ, I was naive and had not yet uncovered my love for real wood smoked goodness. The Wife is, as you can imagine, scared. What started as a novelty birthday present is quickly becoming all encompassing. She claims I will before long start smoking pancakes in the morning, but that's just crazy, everyone knows you cannot do that! Now french toast has possibilities!
I have a simple charcoal smoker, a Charbroil, it's small and doesn't have any real bells or whistles but it seems like a great place to start. I have moved from charcoal briquets to Lump Charcoal and have experimented with different woods. So far I have attended a class and learned some basics, and at home I have smoked a pork shoulder, pork ribs, pork loin and my crowning achievement to date was the Thanksgiving Turkey which came out amazing in about a six hour cook with apple wood only.
I am already planning my next smoker, a bullet smoker.
When not manning the "Pit" I am a huge football fan, Seattle Seahawks and Michigan Wolverines are my favorite teams.
I compete in Rally events with Rally America, NASA Rallysport, SCCA and Cascade Sports Car Club.
I love to read a variety of books, mostly bios but I love the classics and humor novels (Christopher Moore, Dave Berry).
I recently discovered BBQ Pitmasters on TV and I am competely hooked.
Looking forward to picking up some tips here and hopefully entertaining all of you with my trials and triumphs as I learn more about properly cooking great beef, pork and chicken.
