New to the forum here. Looking to buy a smoker and continuing my research. Narrowing it down to a GOSM model or Smoke Vault.

I'm looking recomendations for a smoker that does very well in cold weather. This is the biggest plus for me. I want to use it most of the year. I don't need the biggest or the best. Only one that does well in the cold. I live in the northeast.

Thank you

I have a GOSM 3405BGW and I like it a lot but it doesn't get very cold down here. I'm sure some on the cold weather people will be along to help you out more!

I see this is your first post here, when you get a minute would you do us a favor and go to Roll Call and introduce yourself so we can get to know you and give you a proper welcome, also would you add your location to your profile, we like knowing where you are when we talk to you, Thanks!

No problems with my GOSM in the cold.
The cold isnt to hard on your smoker but the wind can wreak havoc on your temps especially if peaking. I sometimes will add thermal mass to my smoker to help with heat recovery such as cobblestone, granite, cast iron, bricks

I have the GOSM Big Block and have smoked when its 2 degree's out with no problems. If you are concerned you can always put a welding blanked around it to help.

I've had my GOSM for 8 years and cold weather smoking was the reason I bought it. The other night it was 17* and I was out smoking almonds @ 225* I have filled the water pan with sand and covered it with foil to help retain heat when its windy and cold.

Thanks for all the info. Is there a certain model suggested? I was looking at the 3405BGW from Walmart. Was also looking at the Smoke Hollow Pro Series 44" from Samsclub.

Be careful of your purchase most of the time you will get what you pay for. Some things are made exclusively for walmart and will most likely be made cheaper.
Look in my signature for GOSM info

I have had the 3405BGW for over a year and it has been a great smoker. I know it is on the low end being from the dreaded Wal but I take care of it, I have a cover and it is always on when not in use. I added a wire for a door strap because I thought the wind might catch it and bend the hinges. I've done a bunch of other mods but those were for smoking not for care. There is no rust on it anywhere and everything works like the day I got it, except the igniter but those things never last. I've been very impressed with it for the low price I paid!
