Hello

Well, I guess I am the latest new guy.

I live in Nebraska. Anyone else?

The smoker I am using, is home made.

It sounds a little trashy, but it's actually one of the best and cheapest smokers you can have.

It's made from an old 1950's refrigerator. The kind with an all steel interior and a metal seal around the door.

After stripping it of all the extra parts, I powder coated it with high temp black paint, installed a flue, 4 removable racks, a dial thermometer in the door, an adjustable thermostat switch which controls 3 electric coils for the heat. i added a drippings catch pan, to sit above the coils and keep them clean and a pan that rests above the coils for wood chips to smolder.

It cost only about 100 dollars for parts. It looks amazing smokes like any professional unit. Can do upwards of 60 lbs of meat at a time.

Hey thanks.

Nice to meet you.

I had no idea how common it was to do a fridge build before coming here just a bit ago. I see there is a whole section to the forum for it. Up till now, i have been only person I have met, who has done this.

i will say, i agree. The chrome fittings from the original fridge, really do bring out the awesome appearance of the smoker.
