they said 2 deer hunters were injured,  one shot himself in the foot and the other was shot by one of his own group, the reason being that it was to foggy to see his target,   if you cant confirm what your target is then you don't shoot,   people are so stupid   are group has 2 rules  confirm your target and that no other hunter is beyond that target if there is you wait for the deer to pass or let it go.

its alittle different with our group were all muzzleloaders so we tend to take more time on are shots.

Hunter Safety here....it's one of the big three rules...be sure of your target and what is beyond...At least the guy that shot himself in the foot had his muzzle down

thats right better then killing another hunter,  he most likely got his foot climbing over a fence or walking with the safety off

My Dad hunted back in the 50's until one day as he was heading into the woods he met a couple of guys coming out. He asked how they did. One of the guys responded, " I didn't get anything but I got a couple of Sound Shots off..." Dad got back in the car and never hunted again...JJ

I hate it at the range this time of year.

We get guys who have never hunted.  They come out to sight in their brand new FIRST rifles.  They think they will do well.

We get others who only take their rifles out once a year to sight them in.

Both of these groups make the range a very dangerous place to be.  They keep our range safety officers very busy!

These are the guys in the mountains in full camo gear and shooting at every rustle in the bush.

These guys are a danger on the range and an even bigger danger in the bush.

Hunt at your own risk if you are doing so with city hunters!

Good luck and good smoking.

I had a guy tell me this exact same thing in Jacksonville, Ar. deer season 1977...

Hunters aren't the only people who could use a refresher firearm course. In San Francisco, about two years ago, a car jacker was stopped by a police road block. The bad guy got out of the car with a gun in his hand. The SF PD opened fire.........The result: thirty-one rounds fired by police..suspect hit once in the ankle.......the car was thoroughly ventilated.

Seen that before (35 years in law enforcement).

One day the narc squad and swat team were hitting a drug search warrant at an apartment complex next to a hotel. Normally we would suit up (raid gear, bullet proof vests, etc...) and park a short distance away and stealth-fully walk to the target location under cover of darkness.  On this day, while we are in stealth approach mode, unknown to us two robbers take the off duty officer and hotel manager hostage and rob the till at the hotel next door.  As they are fleeing towards the apartment complex where the search warrant was to take place (see where this is going yet), the off duty officer working at the hotel fires a shot or two at the fleeing bandits and they shoot back.  Of course we all heard the shots, but had not idea what was going on or what was heading our way.  Well the two robbers hop the wooden fence and land 30 feet in front of the swat team who was armed for bear..  Not sure who was more surprised, the robbers or the swat team. One idiot robber panics and pops a round off in the general direction of the swat team when a dozen or so visible laser designators lit them up (we never found where that bullet went and we suspect it was 20 feet over our heads into oblivion). More than 150 rounds of full auto 9mm H&K mayhem ensued with a little buckshot thrown in to accent the response. End result, a fence that looked like swiss cheese, two cars behind the fence that looked like swiss cheese, one robber shot non-fatally, the other crapped his drawers and gave up.  I think the one bad guy was hit twice.  I think the element of surprise was the problem for all parties involved as swat guys are some of the best shots around.  It happens.

You can't let your guard down for a second.  I've been around weapons my entire life along with most of my friends and family.  My brother in law was going to clean one of his "unloaded" guns and took a hunk of meat out of his hand.  Fortunately he was OK & was the only one involved, and we were able to use that as a teachable moment with the nephews.  They don't even point toy guns in an unsafe direction.  Like the old saying goes, there's no such thing an an unloaded weapon.

Yikes!!!!!!!

:icon_eek:

This is exactly why I refuse to hunt with anyone but those I fully trust, my dad, brother, uncle, and a few very close friends!!!!

I learned my lesson a LONG time ago!!!!!

I know many people who talk big about guns and hunting.....talk is cheap...when it really mattered, they proved to be some VERY careless, ignorant and dangerous folks...oh, and HORRIBLE hunters!!!!!!

I watched a guy on the range trying to chamber a round, repeatedly back and forth...I went over to ask what was up. " I got a good deal on this SKS and am sighting it in for hunting, now I don't think it was such a good deal, the bullets won't go in."  I looked at the gun, the barrel and chamber were still packed with Cosmoline.

The idiot was lucky, If he would of got one in and tried to fire.......

I know on more than one opening morning I'm still looking for my stand with a flash light and hear shooting.
