Arrrrrrgh.....
For months I looked for a decent donor warmer to make an electric smoker from. Found a great unit with two convection fans and the heating element up top that is supposed to run at up to 220* "as is". It's a McCall single door reach in (full stainless) stationary model (it's big).
Bumped into an old buddy yesterday who is looking for a warmer to use with his part time business (smoked meats of course). He offered me twice what I paid for the donor "as is" sight unseen even if it needs repair. I'm sort of torn between helping a buddy out or keeping the warmer for the build. I could take the money he offered and be most of the way to a MES 40 from Sam's though.
I have not had the time to work on the conversion which is why I still have the warmer "as is". It's huge and with my time issues right now I think a MES makes more sense although it would be a lot smaller and I wanted to get into sausage smoking big time (including true fermented snack sticks).
What should I do? (poll attached)
This is the layout of the unit "as is". I've never seen one with the heater up top and the recirculation like this has. I was told it was nearly $4,000 when new. Note: The pellet tray and cover are all I need to add to make this a smoker if I keep the poly insulation in place. If I pull the insulation and replace with rockwool, you see the time involved.
