HEART OF TEXAS
Ok, fellas

My idea came from this guy http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/index.php?topic=16207.0

I been having this setup for a while now and I thought I would share my mods that I have made to my smoker.

I did not want to post in the already Mods thread since my post would be buried  in the middle or at the end of that thread depending what time frame you look at it.

Thus many people would not see my mods. ;)

This mod was very simple to make the hardest part is cutting the masterbuild but even that is not hard thanks to my Milwaukee cutters.

1.Stainless steel Mailbox 10 dollars

2. 3 or 4 inch aluminum flexible vent pipe  7 dollars  (forgot the size its been a long time since i bought it ;(

3.  2x hose clamps for vent pipe 2 dollars

4.Hi temp silicone maker if u buy the little tubes at the auto store they are 6 dollars each if you buy the giant tube caulk size witch fits in the caulking gun its 12 dollars.((advanced auto parts carries it u get allot more well worth it)

5.And 2x couplers with fold tabs 3 dollars each you attach these to the smoker and the mailbox..Get the couplers with the lip and fold tabs ..much more easy

This is not my pic neither my project just showing for an example.

And as far as cutters go i used the Milwaukee Diagonal cutters

made it really easy  http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-25e...=milwaukee+cutters&storeId=10051#.ULFh-YY-f08

Lots of Hi temp silicone, had a Caulk gun size glue tube so I had lots to spare..don't want it to leak smoke.

I usually have it in the back yard but it was raining and did not want to get wet so i brought it up front and covered the front smoker so no wind would turn off the burner.

The AMAZN Pellet smoker works wonders ..1 gives you about 11 hours of smoke lit from one side, you lite both sides you get about 6 hours minimum.. more smoke of course.

I like my bbq very smoked so 1 amzn pellet smoker lit from both sides wasn't cutting it due to the refill at 6 hour mark (im sleepy and tucked in bed at that time when making brisket))so I bought 2 of them and lite 1 on each and i get 12 hours with heavy smoke.

AMZN pellet smoker

Mailbox stays at ..a little over 100F even if i crank it to 400 on the masterbuild..and the mailbox already had holes at the bottom and one on the side where the flag goes and left them untouched they get enough air from the outside.

http://www.amazenproducts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=AMNPS5X8  The one that I use and there shipping is amazingly fast.

Smoker is about 225 more or less and mailbox is almost at 100..I have videos where the smoker is 400 and the mailbox is still 100 with no affect..will upload videos later

Top and bottom picture shows how both burn equally ..that's about 3 hours of smoke and continues to burn equally all the way to the end ..and it works like this all the time.;like a charm

they never cut off regardless how windy/cold/rainy or hot/dry/humid etc.

Smoke ring from the AMZN pellet smoker

Smoke with no chip pan inside ...only water/grease catch pan... you cant see the mailbox ,only picture i have..I do have videos of it in action and will upload later.

Overall..I would not change this set up at all, its simply fire and forget.

No more checking on wood chips/chunks....Loss of heat when opening door to refill wood and then adjusting burner to maintain temp again..not to mention windy days ashes flying everywhere.

All that is history for me

Very little cost for parts to mod and the benefits are well worth it.

I set this baby up at night monitoring it from inside my home with the wireless mav thermometer the alarm never triggers.

And the Smoke I never have to worry about I wake up the next morning and the pellet smoker is still smoking.

One thing I forgot to mention is that when you turn it up to 350 plus I assume the propane burner start pushing air into the mailbox and smokes start leaking out of the mailbox ,not allot but you can see it noticeably.

But I do not cook at that high temp so it is not a problem for me.

And if I did cook at that high temp I would not worry about it since back flow is not that great for it to be a concern

Unless you get this

or whatever u can mod up.

Gotta love the AMNPS!!! I added an external fire box to my GOSM so i could use it. Your set-up looks Great!

I posted in the gadgets forum, but I have an XL, and am thinking about adding a AMNS (dust) or an AMNPS (pellets).... is there a specific advantage of one over the other? I can get hardwood sawdust locally for real cheap, but if pellets have other benefits maybe I will go the pellet way. This way I can do a semi cold smoke as well as not worrying about the chunks catching fire sending my temps all over the place.

i've done quite a few smokes on the XL now, and have had darn good results, but always looking to better something. Plus, for overnight smokes, I don't want to be worrying about chunks catching fire and sending my temps out of whack, ruining what i've already spent hours of my time into.

The AMNPS wil burn dust or pellets where the AMNS will only burn dust. If you are planning to use one inside a propane smoker for hot smokes your best bet is the AMNTS.

Boy I wish I had seen this thread about a week ago.  This is what I need to do to my smoker.  BTW, will a galvanized mailbox work or does it need to be stainless?

I have read that heating galvanize metal gives off some toxic fumes..dint chance it so got a stainless steel.

The mail box wont go past 105 degrees so i dont think it will be an issue with galvanize but not going to chance it

You can avoid the mod by using an AMNTS the tube smoker, it has been getting real good results inside propane smokers. I did an external firebox mod to my propane so I could use the AMNPS but that was before the tube came out. If I had seen the tube I would have skipped the mod and went with the tube. The only disadvantage I see of the tube is it doesn't burn as long as an AMNPS.
