I have been smoking meat longer than I care to remember. I built my first smoker from a 30 gal. galvanized garbage can in the mid 70's. It was primative but it worked for me for several years. For you old timers I got the plan from Jeff Smith (The Frugal Gourmet) in his 2nd cookbook. I even used it when I entered two ribfests.

I am a 25 year retired firefighter from the Chicago area now living in Gilbert AZ.

After using the garbage can, I bought an offset barrel smoker that I used for 9 years. It was hard to regulate the heat. I purchased a Master Forge upright propane smoker two years ago and I love it.
