I was at Walmart today and they had chicken feet. I got them just for poops and giggles. Then found this recipe and and I'll be dang if they did not turn out tasty. Might have to make them again.

12 chicken feet, declawed and skinned
3 tablespoons dark soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice wine
3 slices ginger
3 green onions
1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
star anise
1 piece orange rind
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 pint water

Directions:
Combine all ingredients and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.

A+ For originality.. I had no idea you could eat chicken feet..

Was the recipe chicken confit, or chicken cold feet???

I'm still laughing..

I have heard....?? .... the flavor they add to chicken stock is awesome....  like fish heads to fish stock.....  Was the flavor fairly powerful chicken flavor ???   I have seen them at w-m and often thought of buying them for chicken soup.....

Great in soups. My German Mom used to make them occasionally.  Not my favorites other than flavoring soups and stews.

On the other hand?  People didn't waste things back then.  Every bit of protein came at a cost to the farmer and his family.

Good luck and good smoking.

Dave,

The seasoning covered up any flavor for the bird. Might have to get more to make some chicken stock.

I guess there is a lot of collagen or something like that in them that really makes the stock "umami".... earthy tasting... Good stuff.....

The Chinese make "chicken foot and peanut soup". A very rich and flavorful broth. If anyone can can get a meal out of a fresh trout, then chicken feet are no problem to eat.

Damn they look good, but I am a nose to tail kind of guy...I can't find them locally. I been wanting to try them for years. My favorite " treat " on a Chicken or Turkey is the crunchy, fatty, Tail or as my MIL called them the Popes Nose!  Cocks Comb braised the same way is supposed to be awesome. Similar flavor and texture with out the bones...JJ
