amity, or
My name is jerry and I have a plan. I'm in the pacific northwest where people don't understand bbq. They think its bbq if they cook something and dredge it in sauce. I'm different. I dry rub and cook low and slow. I've been BBQing for about 3 1/2 years. I cook on traegers. They're pellet cookers and I'm bored with them. I've done 2 comps. I won a baby back rib comp in July and placed 3rd in a tri-tip comp in September, a comp I should of won but the judges were partial to teryaki. Whatever! Like I said I'm bored. I want a stick burner. I think I'm ready. My rubs are. Back to my plan. My daughter is a sophomore and when she graduates I want to quit my job and start my bbq career. So, there it is.

Seems like barbeque places have been growing some throughout the parts of Oregon I have visited, and most of em do pretty well. My favorite restaurant has been Russel Street BBQ in Portland.

I think the problem is the public uneducated about BBQ wanting things like ribs drenched in sauce and falling apart.

Sounds like you got a good plan, have fun.
