Did you ever pick one up?  Seemed you were pretty curious about the controller...

I'm still using mine today a full year later.   No updated pics,  Not much has changed other than a season repainting and cleaning out.   Sad to say I have a hard time doing it without the pid controller now a days.  It's just so much more convenient.   I did pick up a small battery and solar panel from harbor freight and now i'm off-the grid "sorta".
 
I will end up getting one and it's nice to hear it has been reliable! I haven't finished the smoker yet so it will be one of the later purchases, I'm sure you are keeping all your buddies well fed with yours. It's kind of like owning a pickup truck, you always get invited to the "move" parties....
