How are you guys keeping the spiders out of your venturi tubes. I swear every single time I go out to light the smoker I get the .....Woooof.... big yellow flame.

So I get down on my knees, reach under and take out the 2 phillips screws, remove the control panel and run my brush through the venturi. Then put it back together and carry on. This wouldn't be so bad except for the getting down UNDER the unit to remove 2 screws. I can see the screen on the venturi tube. Looks like stainless. APPEARS to be in tact but I can't be sure unless I tip the thing over and really get in there and examine it.

I'm thinking of drilling the control panel from the FRONT where it's easier to get at and screwing it onto the legs instead of the way they have it now. But ....what can I wrap around that venturi tube to keep spiders out and yet not mess with the air mixture?

If this is a common problem for you, get it cleaned up well enough to operate correctly, and I would suggest wrapping the venturi inlet screen with a 3-4" long strip of aluminum foil (long enough for 2-3 layers) and squeeze it down lightly over the inlet every time you shut down the smoker for the day. The foil should keep the bugs from having free access to your venturi screen and plugging it off. Leave a tail on the foil wrap so you can easily remove it without actually seeing it while just reaching in from the side or front of the unit with one hand (just beware of blindly reaching into spaces where poisonous critters commonly hang out). Leave yourself a paper note or another small piece of foil (whatever will work for you) laying on a cooking grate as a reminder to remove the foil wrap from the venturi until you're accustomed to doing it during your smoker prep. This method would save you having to make permanent mods to create a solution to those pesky lil' critters.

I've never had to deal with that issue in my location, but there's always a first for everything. I've heard of mud daubers and spiders causing problems with outdoor propane appliances...even RV propane appliances...so it's definitely nothing new, just depends on your location.
