Good MORNING Everyone! 

        Found the site yesterday after I was looking around for some awesome recipes and help.  I'm from Southern MD, love to grill and cook.. I am going to be the proud owner of a nice big 'ole smoker here in the next several days/weeks.. A hand down from the mom(she's the best!!)  I LOVE some good bbq and have always loved the entire process.  The smoker my mom has looks like an OK Joe, but I'm not sure exactly.. Might be a Char-broil model or something? I will have pictures up soon I hope.  Also it looks like some individuals have possibly made mods/improvements on them as well and I am interested in the benefits they offer to the smoker. 

        I have had the ability to use the smoker a couple times before and while it turned out okay, there are some questions I have that I think some people will be able to help me with here.  Once there was a "numbing" sensation when I ate the ribs, there have also been several times where the smoke flavor was just too much.  When I have it at the house I will take some pictures and hopefully be able to post them!

                                            Thanks a lot for the help and I can't wait to improve on my 'cue!

Will def check out that 5 day course! I am sure there is a wealth of knowledge in there I have no idea about!  Just updated my profile as well, thanks for the help guys!

Welcome to SMF. I grew up in So.MD but now am in Cali.

With the information here I know we can get you strait. The numbing you has was from too much smoke and excessive creosote. You probably had billowing white smoke and not thin blue smoke when you were using it.
