6 1\2 ft smoker build

Thread Starter

Im wanting to build a smoker out of a 250 gallon propane tank at 6 1/2 ft long with one end with the bell attached and the other end cut off and flat steel welded to that side with fire box mounted. What is the best way to set it up? how low does the fire box need to be? any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. first time builder and smoker...

BowHunter, morning and welcome to the forum....  The first link is to a calculator that figures certain dimensions that will make the smoker perform very well...  2 dimensions that need attention are the space under the RF plate and at the end of the RF plate.. I recommend 1.5 times the area of the firebox to smoke chamber dimension to reduce the friction loss inside the smoker....

The second link explains some things to consider when building a smoker.... It is a very good thread....

Please take a moment and stop into Roll Call to introduce yourself and get a proper welcome from our many great members...  The link is here.....

Please ask questions as you attack this worthy project....   We are here to help you make the best smoker possible.... We have many members that have built their smokers as you are thinking of doing....  They will gladly assist you in making it perfect......   Then you can attack perfect Q....  Of course we will need plenty of pictures during the build and of the Q you make when completed....   Dave

I would absolutely LOVE a reverse flow smoker!  However, I will just have to contunue to use my Klose smoker and dream.  No complaints though.  Good luck with your build, I look forward to the upcoming results.  DaveOmak will never steer you wrong!
