After my first cook http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/...sm-ribs-undercooked-or-overcooked#post_851626  I decided to try my first Boston Butt.

We had a little end of the summer get together with several neighbor families on Saturday evening so Friday night around 11pm my butt was smokin!  First long one on the WSM.  It held temp again like a champ with little effort but I did go low and slow and had to feed it some charcoal a few times.  It was a huge success.  Sorry no q view but a couple notes:

11pm to to 5pm next day

Used Plowboys Yardbird for my rub

No Foiling

No turning or flipping

One healthy spray down with apple juice around 3:45

Took it out at around 196 and pulled immediately

No sauce on it.

Made 2 side sauces that were both big hits

Sweet Ketchup-Based Sauce - Combination of Blues Hog Original, Sweet Baby Ray's Original, Ketchup, Apple Juice, Yardbird Rub, Minced Onion, Minced Garlic and a tiny bit of pure maple syrup

Sweet/Spicy Thinner/Vinegar Based Sauce - Blues Hog Original, Blues Hog Tennessee Red, Apple Cider Vinegar, Tiger Sauce, Yardbird Rub, Minced Onion/Garlic - This one was really good.

Dessert....  Beer.  Oh yeah, and... Apple Pie  (moonshine)

Thanks again to everyone for the info I read on the forum about pulled pork.

. Glad it turned out as a huge success.

Thanks for the comments everyone.  I might as well share a couple funny happenings from Sat. night...

It kind of turned into one of those parties that, oddly enough, nobody was snapping pictures and... it was probably a good thing...

Two ladies that became very bitter towards one another last year over something stupid became drunkin' best friends again after some BBQ and some... ah hem..."Apple Pie".  Oh yeah, we're talking crying, hugging each other, spilling beverages, all while sitting on there bottoms in the middle of my driveway while some of the neighborhood kids awkwardly wondered what the hell was going on.

An nice older guy up the street stopped by... with a flask.  Poor guy's had it rough for a while - wife's doing real bad in the hospital and has had trouble for several years.  I'm glad for a few hours he got had have a good time but he got pretty loose and paid for it later.  At one point I looked over and he was laughing so hard his false teeth flew out!!!  Unfortunately he paid for it later that night.  A couple guys drove him up to his house since his legs were pretty useless at that point and got him in the house but he got sick.  One buddy got hurled on!

One neighbor that I wouldn't have suspected it looked at me late in the evening with her drunkin eyes and said - I wish you had weed right now.  That caught me off guard (and no, this is the only smoking that I do).

While siting at the fire pit strumming a guitar at the very end of a long night I watched my next door neighbor weave his way through his back yard to the porch door while only slightly running into his deck railing and the doorway into the house.  He had been hiccuping for at least 20 minutes at that point and yesterday his wife told us how she had to listen and feel him shake the bed with the hiccups while he kept her awake as he fell asleep.

A success on several levels!
