I Am going to add the extension but not tack it down so I can remove to clean as well. Did you lower your new pipe down to grate level? I am not to happy with the door hing, leaks a lot of smoke/Heat. Did you address that issue? Sorry for all the questions, and thx for your help.

I changed out the stack closes to the fire box to a 5" exhaust pipe 26" long and I sunk it in 5" into the CC I cranked it up at 4amthis morning and its holding 200 deg real good I have both vents on the FB all the way open and the new stack all the way opened the other sack I think I'm going to cut it out and weld it shut its not needed at all I don't even know why they put it

Buggman are u using a thermometer placed inside the CC or simply going by the one installed in the hole located in the door? The new one I have installed in my door is completely useless... I dont know if its the thermometer or the design, but its so inaccurate I cant use it. If its reading 150 my CC may be close to 300 degrees in some of the hot spots. And I definitely recommend "mapping" the cooker. I used several remote style thermometers stuck thru potatoes. One was never moved and was my base line temp. I found that my cooker was pretty consistant with the temps. I only saw small variances in temperature with the coolspot being just on the firebox side of where the reverse plate ends. The hotspot was directly over the coolspot on the top rack. But knowing this will aid u in cooking multiple meats that cook at different temps.

Yes I did lower the stack to almost touching the top cooking rack. I have looked at addressing the hinge, but havent done anything yet. I was considering welding a piece of metal to the cook chamber that would lay over the hinge and extend forward. Then glue some oven gasket to the plate so that when the lid is closed it seats on to the gasket. That should reduce or eliminate the piano hinge leak.

UGA fan I changed out the themometers and added 2 more to the CC door so I can keep track of the temp the modes I did it is working great the themometers I'm using are top of the line and I'm not telling the ppl I bought this from any info cuz they acted like this problem was something new but from what I've been reading they have been told by a few ppl so they are on there own

So i did not see anywhere where you changed the size of the firebox, I am in the process of building a reverse flow.

That being said the fire box i have now is 90% of what it should be do you guys think it will be ok.

Thanks from Se Ohio
