Grilling a "Fred's Steak"

There was a post on FB from last night from Mark Zuckerberg, owner of FB, on him writing an interface for the iGrill remote thermometer for FB while cooking a "Fred's Steak", and a picture of such:


I updated my grilling app, iGrill, today and it now has Facebook integration that lets you see what other people are grilling right now around the world. Awesome. I'm making a Fred's steak.

It's always wonderful to learn that people enjoy our Fred's Marinated Sirloin™.  My husband and I own Schaub's and the original recipe is from my husband's father Fred. The recipe you posted is one that someone else posted several years.  It isn't our recipe and is nothing like our Fred's marinade.  I mention it because we didn't want any of your readers to make it and then be disappointed when it didn't taste like a "Fred's" Steak.  Thanks for letting me clear this up.

I've never heard of Schaub's(I'm from the upper midwest so I don't get out much)  but I'm ready to try my own version or well..a copy cat of a copy cat or something. I will make note of Schaub's when I visit CA next time.

While its a decent attempt at the Freds recipe, CJanie is correct.  Its just not the same.  I have tried this several times and tried adding to it, but not able to nail it.  Tri-Tip is an awesome cut of meat to begin with.  You can't go wrong.  I still dish out for the Freds when having company, but do my own otherwise if its just me.


Its something everyone should try at least once if you can make it to Palo Alto, Ca area.
