I'm getting close to completing my brick smoker.  I've been researching temperature  thermometers for the steal doors.  I am looking at the   BBQ-300-GL-4 at the KCK.com web site.   Does anyone know if they are water proof?  Can I leave them in year round, or do I need to take them out each time when done.   Thanks in advance!  Hope everyone had a great week-end!

Wes, evening....  Waterproof ?? Don't know.... I'd take 'em out, between uses, just for the H' of it...    Dave

Don't know about that thermometer, but I've had a 3" Tel-Tru model in my WSM since 2005 and it's been rained on many a night.  Lives under a covered porch since we re-sided the house and extended the roof, but in all the years before, I never had a problem with a Tel-Tru in the weather.

They have a lot of options and sizes, and I got this one on E-bay for around $20 in 2005.

Thanks for the reply.   Just wanted an opinion.  They are a little pricier they I figured on.

The info I got from the company was that they are water proof.  They did advise taking them out on the winter when they "could" freeze.   Thanks for the replies.  I got mine the other day.  I'm excited to get them installed and my smoker fired up.  Only about 3 more weeks for the masonry to fully cure out.   I plan to post an outline of the build with pictures.
