I have smoked a few briskets and made some burnt ends and really like the way the point comes out burnt or sliced I think it tastes better.  Problem is I cant find just the point cut anywhere short of buying the whole packer brisket.

I talked to a butcher and he said he could order me a case but now I wonder if he ment a case of packers or just points.  Either way does anybody have an idea about what I should pay per pound for an 80# case?  Has anybody ever bought a case of points before?

Any advice or insight would be appreciated.  Also I live in Phoenix, AZ if that helps.

I went into a Walmart grocery for the first time today and checked out their meat section. They had a couple flats and point separated. Not a great price for them though, imo.

i went to 3 Walmarts. Only 1 had briskets--full packers.  They were full of fat and the cheapest was $40.00.  Today, I went to Costco and picked up a 5lbs flat for $17.00.

Beef ain't cheap in Charlotte. I blame the upcoming Democratic National Convention.  lol

Yeah I usually buy my brisket from Walmart or Smart and Final, I have one in the fridge going in the smoker tonight.

mneely40 was your walmart actually selling the point as a seperate piece? Or was it the just the flat with not point attached?

Both. Looked like they separated a packer or two. They were trimmed of almost all the fat, but were something like $4.99 lb.

Slicerd, evening...  If you have a grinder, buy a whole packer.... trim off the point and grind the rest for burger.... or smoke the flat and make pulled brisket or pastrami...... the packer will save you money...  Dave

Dave that is a Brilliant Idea! I like Points Smoked because they stay moist and Pastrami will make the Flat stay moist too...JJ
