 Howdy Gang.

I picked up my trailmaster over 3 weeks ago from Home Depot,  I got the this unit because my brother has one and it works awsome, the one i got dose not work well at all.

My brothers has no mods, and has no door leaks at all (he also got his from home depot) I could work his trailmaster temps from low to high and high to low without a problem. smoke runs on his smoker are great.

The Trailmaster I have has major Door leaks (fire door and smoker door) I have a hard time getting smoker chamber Hot I think because fire door leaks out to much heat and that the smoker door is doing the same.

I found this site and after poking around i found the mod section for this smoker,  this is what i have done so far:

Sealed the smoker box to chamber with fire place cement, Added Stack extension, Added 2 grate gauges.

Now  i can see my temp difference,  my brothers smoker is almost perfect all acroos the grates and with a oven thermo, in the back of his all the temps are almost perfect. 250*.

Now my smoker I still cant get up to 300* using the same methods. and cant hold long smoke runs, even with a fire box basket, looses fuel to fast.

Ok - I contacted Brinkmann by phone and left a message to be called back, well the guy that called me back asked me where i baught my unit and i told him H.D.  he put me on hold then came back and told me thay all have these problems, so I hung up and sent a email.  after 7 days i got a return email asking for a copy of my recipet and they would send me new doors and a termostat. well, i got a new smoker door that dosnt fit, and a thermostat. no fire box door.  i sent a reply email back to brinkmann and havnt heard from them in 7 days.

I do belive that the barrell parts of my unit are not round.  I am very upset,  the time and money i have put into this unit tells me that I could have baught a better more expensive unit and would be happy and fat plus enjoying my smokes a lot more.

I just sent another email  to brinkmann and the CSR that was handling my email. I also went to Home depot and there are no more trailmasters left, one employee told me thay will not have anymore.

Now As i sit here waiting 24 hours waiting for the  600* Automotive RTV to dry (doors), im pissed that i am past my 14 day return from Home depot only because the big box company that made it stalled me from returning it for a full out cash refund!

I do have pictures and videos, i also have copys of emails if you would like to see.

 What would you do?

Tom

Hi Tom, If i had seen that many problems from the beginning and it didn't perform like my brothers I would have taken it back before I started modding it. I hope Brinkman will do something to make it right now that you have modded it.

I don't think we need to see your emails.

I see this is your first post here, when you get a minute would you do us a favor and go to Roll Call and introduce yourself so we can get to know you and give you a proper welcome, also would you add your location to your profile, we like knowing where you are when we talk to you, Thanks!

going to roll call now -

and not returning the unit to hd was what brinkmann replied in a email.

tom

off to Roll Call

Thanks

I returned my first CGSP side firebox to Lowes because the door would not properly. All the heat was escaping. They took the return with no problem.
