I've bought several Maverick thermometers in the past and have always been under the impression they are junk. I have a lot of respect for the users of this forum and most of my purchases and recipes I get from you guys is solid information. I can't say the same for the 732, it has performed exactly like my other maverick products. This time the bbq probe went out in about a month and a half. I was hesitant buying this thing because of all the bad reviews on Amazon. I'll be another 1 star review for this thing if they don't respond to my support email (already been 5 days). My probes have never touched water and have been wiped clean after about 4 uses.

So I'm curious why does everyone rave about this product? Is it just the price/value you get? I'll pay for something that works, so is there a better product out there? I'd love to have something as dependent as my thermopen. I paid a lot for that thing but worth every penny and it is going on about 4 years.

Hmm I can't say that I have ever had any issues with any of my three Maverick's. Sucks you are having issues. I have only heard of a few people who have had issues and from what I remember Maverick has been good to make things right. Hopefully they can help you out.

I have had an ET-73 for about 10 months now and have used it at least 25 times many of which have been for over 15 hours at a time and I have had absolutely no problems with it except I had to change the batteries one time. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good one.

I'm curious as to others' opinion on this as well.  The ET-732 is on my list for my next purchase, but I've seen some similar reviews.

One question...knowing that water cleaning is not the way to go, what does everyone else use?  Would alcohol wipes be bad?

This is not directed at the original poster.

I have heard good and bad, but seems like some of the time, the bad is an easy fix, like adding fresh batteries or removing the probe and reinserting it back into the the jack.

I just wanted to point that out.

I have had mine for a year and half. I smoke every weekend . Lots and lots of 12+ hours.
never had any issues with it.

I've had a ET-732 for a couple years with no issues. I clean mine with a Clorox disinfecting kitchen wipe.

Thanks all.  I think I'm going to take the plunge and try one.  Lorax, hope all works out for you...maybe Maverick will come through.  My OT-3BBQ seems to hold up ok, so I guess I have to take that for what it is.

I used the ET-732 for approx 6 months.  Kept giving me trouble the last 2.  Probes would have different readings by 50+ degrees  then the grill side failed altogether.  Finally threw it out.  I am presently looking for a new one.  Maybe I had a bad one, I don't know.  Will I buy another? Maybe.   When I did have trouble and posted about it here, I did not receive any answers to solve my problems

I have both the 732 and 73 and use them a lot - no issues at all

My problem is definitely the probe. I can take the food probe and stick it in the bbq side and it will read correctly. The bbq probe basically just reads about 150 degrees too high. I went through every FAQ I could find online and I am certain the probe is faulty.

I had a problem with mine, receiver dropping signal. Emailed the company, quick response, and they sent me a new receiver. Granted it was only a month or so old.

Now weather or not they will give you a new probe or not I can't say but I know you can get replacement probes for a reasonable price. It sucks when stuff doesn't work but it's like with anything no matter how good a product is someone is going to get a bad one and run into issues and hopefully the manufactures can make it right.

If Maverick does not replace it for free, Todd sells them cheaper than Maverick

Over 200 smokes on my et-73...zero problems. Wife got me a et-732 for Christmas and it has never been out of the box....hope i have the same luck with that one!!! Maybe i should fire it up and check for any problems but i have nothing but confidence it will perform like my et-73!!!

I have a redi chek model from about 5 years ago and it is still going strong, bought a 732 about 18 months ago from Todd and it has at least 30 smokes on it some in 100+ degree outside temp and some in the 0 degree outside temp and the only time I had any problems was when batteries were weak.  And FWIW the 732 is a vast improvement over the redi chek especially in the wireless range department. wash my probes with soap and water but never get water where the cable enters the probe, I also wrap this area with foil when in the smoker.   I would definitely call maverick and see what they will do for ya, seem to have pretty good CS reviews on here, I haven't had to use them yet so can't give first hand experience.  I would have to guess you just got a bad one, there are too many people on here that have them that are happy with them , myself included

+1

I've had my ET-73 about the same length of time. I've had to change batteries because I forgot to turn the units off after use. FWIW: I 'lost' my probe (wife put where I didn't know to look - 'cause I left it out 'in her way'). I contacted Maverick about using the probe from my ET-901 (one I purchased for oven use some few years ago) and was told that they were NOT INTERCHANGEABLE - the probe tips are apparently made differently and I think they mentioned something about the cables not being the same (not sure about the latter). Another think I learned is that they have upper temp limits - check your instruction book or look it up online. I had planned to use mine at grill temps and found out it would have ruined it.

Jus' givin' you some things to consider.

I just bought one of each....the 732 and the 73....hopefully both are good ones!

The thing with bad reviews is that people are more likely to make a bad review than a good one.....hopefully that's the case here but I've read a lot of complaints from this forum too.
