Just wanted to say hello! I've been lurking these forums for the last several weeks gathering up all the great info I could to make the best educated decision on what smoker to buy and what accessories I needed to go with it.....
So far I purchased the 2012 MES40 from Bass Pro shops and TJohnson's AMNPS (I hope it gets here by Wednesday the 4th :D) with a 5lb bag of his Pitmasters Choice Pellets.
That being said I'd like to ask a few general questions and hope to get a response from some experts here in one section as my fingers and eyes are tired from reading scattered threads :D
Question 1: in the new 2012 MES40 where do I place the AMNPS? are there any pics of this alum foil heat shield I've read about? Related question-see question#3
Question 2: I've been looking at the Maverick Therms for a bit, I'd like a suggestion or two on which to buy. I want it accurate, I want to be able to sit in the house and monitor the situation outside (Greater than 100ft and through several thick walls) but I dont need anything real expensive or fancy (Maybe 40 and under)
Question 3: Do you guys typically use the MB drip/grease tray or would I be better off placing a disposable aluminum pan down there? If so, where do i place it in relation to the AMNPS
Anyway thanks for the help. MES40 is currently in the pre-seasoning process and I'm looking to smoke some spare ribs and possibly a pork butt in the next few days (Gotta start somewhere, complete greenhorn here)
