what time to start

Thread Starter

We are having about 20 people over saturday and I am putting 2 - 8.5lb butts on the smoker.  We are planning on eating at 5pm.  I was originally thinking about starting them at 8pm on friday and that would give them 16 hours and be done at noon to get wrapped and in the coolers while I put my corn and pork shots on the smoker.  I have never done two at once in my smoker and I am just worried that it will take longer.  what time would yall start.  I am using a bradley electric smoker by the way.  Thanks for any help

Bigpuddin, 8PM should give you plenty of time. Going with two butts may affect your time, but only slightly. Good luck and enjoy your gathering.

I usually go 1 1/2 hours per pound and give myself an hour or two leeway (they will rest in the cooler) but I do not usually foil my butts and "the stall" can be quite unpredictable. so alot depends on your cooking method. It all depends on how much you are going to open the smoker during the cook. With two butts in the Bradley, that is not bad, I would figure only 1/2 to 1 hour more.

The two of them won't hurt a thing , and it will be just fine...
