I called MB today an they don't sell jets for natural vs propane gas. Has anyone here tried drilling the existing jet to work with NG? If so, what diameter hole worked for?

Thanks deweyha! However, they are selling entire new burner assemblies. Those use ALOT more fuel and burn at entirely different rates. I was hoping to keep my existing burner.
Propane contains roughly 1.4 times more BTU's of energy per unit than NG. Actually, NG is an unrefined blend of propane, butane and ethane.
I was hoping that someone here had drilled out their existing propane jet to a new (larger) bore to achieve the same energy release from burnibg NG vs. propnane.
THANKS again!!

Just saw this. Save the effort, don't bother re-jetting. I drilled mine to 1/16" and it holds 250 on low. Tops out at 600+ with an empty smoker! The range on the burner is good enough with the propane orifice. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't!

Thanks...so you drilled it to 1/16 and then converted I to NG? And you rA saying that you would leave the orifice and burner the same and just connected it to NG......Correct?

I have done same thing!  1/16th drill bit.  If its to big u can bave it brazed shut and re drill it!  Have done my grill and my spare smoker!  Leave everything else the same!

Have u tried hooking it up to NG th e way it is?

U can also get smaller bits at hardware store to try first only a couple of bucks and some time!

with NG u dont need one if theres one on the line coming into your house!  Its built in to ur meter!
Pressure coming out of a residential gas meter is 7-11" w.c.. Appliances run at 3-5" w.c. It is always recommended to use a appl. reg to get a stable flame.

Yes, I'm saying that you shouldn't need to drill it out. You will get plenty of temp range out the stock orifice. I can get over 600 degrees with mine on high, drilled to 1/16". I don't think I've ever seen low and slow cooking at that temp!

Well thats a new one for me. I have been in the natural gas industry for 23 years and never heard of house line pressure that low.

was wrong I just disconneced my stove and checked pressure was 6.  At my smoker was 6.5 and at my grill was roughly 6.25 stove has a regulator on it but smoker and grill do not and both are drilled to1/16 and work great!  Didnt Check w.c. after regulator on stove!
