I am planning on sealing the cooking chamber of my duo using either C channel or opposite facing angle pieces. However, where I have seen most people using iron I was going to use aluminum. Out off all the times I've seen pictures etc of this being done I havent seen anyone using aluminum. Is there a reason for this that I'm missing? I wouldn't think it would get out enough to warp would it? Also, instead of using wood stove gasket I was just going to fill the channel with high temp RTV, put Vaseline or waxed paper on the lip of the top half and close the lid and let it dry. I figured this would form an even more air right and custom seal. Does anyone see any issues with my plan? Also I was going to put a bead of rtv around where the lid makes contact on the fire box and close the lid on that with some waxed paper to make a seal. It says it's good to 600* I think which is the only thing I was worried about on the fire box. Thanks in advance.

Fly, evening....  I used aluminum angle for shelf supports in a smoker once....  the pan holding the chunks, caught on fire...  whether it was from fat dripping or what ever.....  the angle melted in the fire....  It was time to rebuild....  I hate doing stuff twice... aluminum is not on my list of materials when building anything that may involve a fire....  Dave
