I am Jon and joined a few days ago. I have been cooking dutch oven for several years now and do so in hunt camps. Smoking came about a few months ago when my wife and I went hunting in Texas. My wife started smelling bar b que as soon as we enter Texas. We were taken to a bar b que place after church, and as they say,"the rest is history". We were in Oklahoma last week where my niece made smoked ribs for us, and all I hear now is we need to find more bar b que. I have been trying and somewhat successful with an old refrigerator and electric burner, but I tried to slow cook some ribs like my niece and was told they were no good. I do not take defeat well at all, so I got on the Internet and by the grace of God found Jeff's sight. It has already been fun and I haven't smoked anything. Jeff is one of the greatest host's I have ever met. I have now been given permission to buy what ever smoker I want. Also get to buy a small one for camp. I make a lot of sausage, and we catch a lot of fish, so we are looking for a large horizontal for the house and a small smoker to take with us when we go to hunt camp.We outfit for elk camps so we need a smoker to pack with us in the woods.Any advise would be greatly appreciated. We are really excited about being part of this group and look forward to the future.
