I did a butt last week on my UDS. There was times I didn't see any smoke coming from the smoker. alot of the wood was still unburn

after 16 hours. still had half of my basket with charcoal in it after 16 hours !!

Love how great the UDS works but I want to see

some smoke coming out all the time. just wondering if anyone has use the AMNPS in a UDS? What the best way to set it up ?

thinking about putting it at the bottom by the air intake but if it go out it be hard to reach in and get it restarted. I can add a rack under

the top rack but don't know if it will stay lit that far away from the air intake. also thinking about making a box that will hook up to the

intake from outside the drum. that way the air passes by the AMNPS before it goes into the UDS.

thanks for any help, its appericated

Keep the thoughts coming and let us know what you come up with that might just work.  There are several of us working on the drum concept smoker, like the UDS, the WSM and the Brinkmann Gourmet style smokers.  There's an answer there somewhere.  I've grown spoiled with the smoke production and the many flavors Todd offers while using the AMNPS with my BBGOSM (Big Block GOSM) but now that I've wandered over to the darkside with a WSM, it's just got to be a way.  If either Eric or I come up with something, we'll make sure to post it on your thread to share the thoughts.

Thanks, I PM Todd to see what he thinks the best way. I like the idea of a box its sit in and let the air pass by it before going into the smoker.

Since I have an MES 40, I cannot be an authority.  BUT, I've got a buddy that has a UDS, and he actually hung his AMNPS from his lowest rack using some SS wire.

He has it off to one side and it is above the bottom so air flow from all sides.

If it goes out he simply lifts the bottom rack out and adds to or relights the AMNPS.  Don't know if it would help you, but hey he loves it.

Good luck.

I think i might start by putting it on a rack below the food and see how that works.
give me a good reason to smoke something tomorrow :yahoo:
