I really hate grubs .. even before I turned organic the poison wouldn't get rid of them ..  I don't know what I would do on a very large scale .. I usually try and squish all beetles that I see then kill as many grubs while I dig ..

I have a very small plot here tho .. organics are pricy if you don't have the rest of the farm to go with it ..

ha...my canning thread turned into a gardening thread, which is OK with me. Thank you for all the helpful info guys! I'm thinking that I like the idea of raised bed gardening, so I'm going to look into that for now. Hopefully I'll be able to pull this off and will be eating and canning this year from my own garden. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.

Haha Sorry .. I actually think every gardener is very opinionated about their gardening styles .. A raised bed is nice to have !!

Go with what your comfortable with I am sure you will do Great!!

Yeah.... think I'm copping an attitude already. hahaha...

I'm sure there's probably thousands of gardening websites on the www and since SMF is geared more towards MEAT (mmm... smoked ribs sound good for next weekend) could someone recommend a quality site or two?

I got a kiddie pool from walmart for $10. Filled up with good potting soil and manure. I have done it this way for years worlds cheapest raised bed. I have pictures in a thread (2011 it's a start). Make sure you pop a hole in the side about 2 in up from the bottom.I used 3/4 pvc as a drain pipe.

You might try Square Foot Gardening - just google it - almost as adictive as smokin meat and you can raise a bunch of vegies in just 4 sq ft.

Thanks! You're not kidding about SMF being addictive... it has cost me a small fortune so far, but I'm having a blast! :-)

Today I ordered the "All New Square Foot Gardening" book. By the end of the week I should be an expert at gardening!

Great info in this book, just remember, it's like buildng a UDS - there's no "only way to do it" but the basic design is important.

I agree....haven't read the whole book yet but so far I like it. I'm sorry to say I won't be having a garden this year.....bummer. I just simply have too many things, projects going on right now. Hopefully (maybe) next year.... famous last words of a Browns fan!

With or without a garden...... I'm going to do some canning this year!
