Gasket Rope or Tape?

Thread Starter

I'm looking at getting a better seal around the door of my horizontal offset smoker to stop losing so much heat and smoke.  I've had a look at fireplace gasket rope, but wanted to find out if anyone's used this stuff on their smoker for the same application I'm looking at using it for.  Also, is rope better than tape or vice versa?

Any suggestions/comments?

Pete ,I used the rope on my vintage Carmichael  fuel stove(circa 1955) that I had in my cabin in the Snowy Mountains. Worked well. You just need the right adhesive to hold it in place.I think I used a fireplace putty from Selleys.White tub red lid but there may be better product now.

I figure you are never going to get a perfect seal,I  never did but you will get a reduction of heat/smoke leakage for sure.
