First run with new smokehouse

Thread Starter

This is a picture of my new smoker during our first smoke with meat today with a small batch of Pork and Beef sausage. Wanted to do a test run before I do my venison. I finally am able to smoke without waiting for my buddy to be doing a batch and hauling everything to his place. Just wanted to thank everyone here. I don't do a lot of posting, but have read and learned a lot from this forum that made this possible. Thanks again.

Basically, it was the only place I could put it safely that worked with my fire box. City lots, not much room!

Interesting build.  I would like to see a shot of the fire pit?

Good luck and good smoking.

I am running on propane and I am short of room so I cheated a bit. Maybe not a fire pit as much as a smoke/heat source. I have a bit of a dip that runs in front of the shed and smokehouse to drain rain off the yard (it slopes quite a bit toward the shed and smokehouse) What I am using is an old portable RV BBQ that I cut up the lid and modified to attach my pipe to, set in the bottom of that dip. That is just for cold smoking. To hot smoke, I just take the lid off and set it in the bottom of the smokehouse and run the regulator from outside.I have 3 regulators drilled out differently. The smokehouse is fully insulated so no problem getting it hot and keeping it steady. Actually had trouble keeping it cool because it was such a mild day. I need some more ventilation.I have nothing on the high side (right side in pic.) except lifting the roof a bit.(it is removeable) Taking care of that tomorrow so I can get some cross venting. I can take off the roof and cover it with an un-insulated piece of plywood as well if need be and add a vent there. I will have to do that for all cold smoking I do  in the future if the weather is mild.Got a way to go to get it the way I need it, but so far so good.

It all looks interesting except for the white stuff.  biggrin.gif

I'm sure you will get the ventilation worked out.

Good luck and good smoking.
