missing something?

I'm new to the Masterbuilt Gas Smokehouse, I did everything I'm suppose to do, but are the juices suppose to drip on the wood chips, and on the flame bowl? This just doesn't seem right. Feel like I'm missing something. Please help! I appreciate it!
 
The wood chip pan goes in above the burner then a water/drip pan above that to catch the drippings. Fat dripping on the burner will start a fire.
