No offense taken! Although I do have enough black powder to give it a try, but I really like my smoker, so no experimenting here! Sure would cut down on smoking time! And I'm still chuckling!

No offince, but when I read this, I could just see someone with the black powder all over their meat in the smoker and POOF !!!!  It's done..........

Shawn, buckboard bacon does and doesn't taste like belly bacon. It has the salty cured taste we've come to love in bacon. It's generally leaner although parts of a butt do have some fat. It has a different texture too. I love it and sure haven't had any complaints! Try it, you'll love it!

does it taste like bacon that is made from pork belly's
For me it is a cost thing, I can buy Boston Butts for 1/3 of the cost of bellies and I like the leaner meaty taste.....I have been using Pops wet recipe for the last 3 runs and believe me when I tell you. It makes a lot of bacon, but once you give the first person a taste it's all over, it’s gone!! I have been cold smoking mine for the last two batches, but after talking to Pops today I'm undecided on how to smoke the 3rd batch. I will make that decision by Wednesday, when I fire up the smoker....Good Luck and keep up posted……

Hey Geerock...good luck with your bacon and please keep us posted on it!

Shoneyboy...I got the pork butts on sale at the grocery store for $1.49 lb and I can't find "slabs" of pork belly, I can get them at an asian market in 3-4 inch wide pieces for $3.00 lb. Just thought I'd try the BBB since they were such a good price. I'm going to try Pops brine on the next run of bacon and as far as cold or hot smoking, still haven't made a decision on that yet.
