I'm thinking the 1hp grinder is a little much for what little bit of grinding I will be doing. Maybe once every four or five months for now.

I understand it has a feature or 2 the smaller ones don't but I also see that all the attachments will fit the smaller (1/2, and 3/4hp) ones. Then again if I get a smaller one I'll be kicking myself in the ass for not getting the 1hp...LOL

(holds hands on ears and shakes head) "I'm sooooo confused"

I have the Cabela's 3/4 HP commercial model. It has plenty of power, its fast and has been quite reliable.

Since I rarely do loads larger than 15 pounds, it does the job quite nicely.

Got a refurb. model from Cabelas & saved big $$.

I am right there with ya I got no advice for ya

I have the 1/2 hp one and its good. I would like the 1hp but i am not unhappy with the 1/2

My first grinder was a 1200 watt I picked up off E Bay for $100.00. I used for several years and I did some heavy grinding after I bought it I never bought any Hambuger or breakfast sausage when it finely quit working I went ahead bought a Lem #22 Wich s just below a commercial grinder I'm able to grind 10lbs of meat in 1 min or less. I'm grinding more meat than ever before between 30 to 50 lbs each week.
A smaller grinder will take you longer you just need to decide on how valuable your time is worth save a $100.00 for a extra 5 to 10 min of your time.

Are you kidding? I wouldn't want to lug a 1hp around to set it on the counter! I also wouldn't want to pay for one...

I have the .35hp LEM and I've been using it almost once a week. I use it for sausage but I also use it to grind chicken for my dogs. We have our dogs on a raw diet and it's been awesome. So I grind up various chicken parts typically, bones and all. If a .35hp will do that I think it would satisfy the majority of people here. But hey, if you're loaded, get the big one and haul it home in you're new fancy truck. ;)

I have the 1/2 too and it works fine for me, but I usually only make 5 to 10 lbs. of sausage at a time. Maybe once a month.

I bought the LEM #22 1 hp grinder. I usually process my own deer and the majority of that meat (other than backstraps) gets ground. I can blow through 25 lbs of meat in no time.

I've been making sausage, keilbasa or snacks sticks lately, so it's getting a workout.

Zero complaints.

I have the Cabelas 1/2 hp. I did 100 lbs of venison in 20 mins. Its a great grinder. The LEM Big Bites are nice to and i may get one being there are no Cabelas down here if i need a plate or blade.

Either will serve you well.

When i worked at Cabelas we had this lady come in every few months, She has the huge grinder 1 3/4hp and she would make her own dog food. She would buy extra blades because she was grinding the bones in with the meat.

HA HAAAA to funny... thinking I just may go with the 1/2 hp... thanks y'all.. I have to make up my mind tonight so I can turn in my order at work...

When I was Cabelas I was looking at the 1hp and the 1/2hp, and the dude told me if I was grinding Venison I would want the 1hp cause it has reverse, I told him I wasn't planning on grinding anything backwards, he looked at me kinda funny, then he proceeded to tell me the venison tends to clog up grinders more because it is stringy, and that reverse makes it easier to unclog

I do not ever grind venison so I don't know if this has any truth to it, but if it is, that may help your decision

The venison will only clog if you don't clean the deer meat up very good, I tend to cut all that nasty tasting sinew off anyway so no clogging from my Tasin grinder (1200 watts) at all. You might want to check out Weston grinders as well, they also have the jerky slicer, cuber attachments and mixers available. I think the attachments can only be used on the 1 hp and 1.5hp units though, same as Cabelas.

If in doubt it would be best to buy the larger grinder now if you can cuz you'll wish you had the larger one later IMO. Decisions Decisions....

lol Big Casino! But yeah, if you don't remove the tough silver skin it will tend to clog up. We remove as much as we can but haven't had ANY problem with what was left.
