Upstate NY
Hi folks- Started smoking the basics a couple years ago and only manage to do it 4-5 times per year here in upstate NY.  I consider myself a greenhorn but the guests always seem happy. No complaints yet but, it's typically family and friends so they maybe they aren't tellin' the truth. I started out with a Brinkman Smoke-N-Grill and this year Santa brought me a Masterbuilt XL propane unit and most of my grillin' is done on an older 4 burner CharBroil Commercial. Sometimes I grill on the Sonofhibachi when just the four of us want only burgers. No mods to any of the above although, after the first two smokes I've noticed that the Masterbuilt could use a couple and my grill needs new burners after many many sessions. I've seen some great info on this site and I'm happy to be aboard. Jeff

I'm not that great at takin' pics but, in the future for ECTO1 and the 'eye candy' folks, I will do my best to post some 'pit p+rn'.

Welcome to our little global family!  I'm a former upstate NY'er, in the NNY; Craig and I went to school together in Adams Center, NY, 10 mi. south of Watertown.  My dad owned a store there and cured and smoked all his own hams, bacons, dried beef, cured and smoked chickens and turkeys, and basically anything else that moved, flew or crawled, lol!

We all have one similar problem, however.  It is a disease... we all love to drool!  So take lots of Qview (pictures) of your equipment, mods, add-ons, new toys, plus smokes and more smokes!  Be sure to keep a log (there's some available on here) so you document and improve with every smoking experience - and all mistakes you still get to eat, lol!  Have fun and enjoy, welcome aboard!

Between my mission and grad school, I've spent 5 years of my life in upstate NY.  I spent about 7 months in Watertown back in '98.  I got moved up there right after the big ice storm hit that year.  What a mess that was.  I spent a lot of time cleaning up downed trees and what not once things thawed out.  Then I wound up in Albany for grad school.  I gotta tell you, I do NOT miss the winters out there.  Or the summers, for that matter.  I hate humidity.

Anyway, welcome aboard.  I haven't been around here for long yet, but this is hands down the most helpful website I've ever found for any hobby I've ever had.
