Hey guys, I need your help with an urgent question.  I am kinda a beer snob and don't like beer in a can.  I drink mainly Sam Adams, and since AR doesnt sell it in a can, I have beer but no can.  Is there any reason I couldnt use a vegie can?  I am cooking one this afternoon for some Chicken Corn Chowder and am finding myself a bit unprepared

Never let being a fan of one beer stop you from trying beer in a can, Caldera Brewing makes a great IPA, as long as you are not afraid of the hops.

The whole idea behind a beer can in the cavity is to keep moisture in the bird. I know folks who don't drink and insert a soda can filled with chicken stock and herbs so don't worry about your beer choices

Anything that will hold liquid and fit in the bird will do...JJ

Thanks for the help.  I wasnt sure if veggi cans had some kind of lining that couldn't be heated up.  Now that I am confident that I won't kill my family, I will give it a whirl.

I do like IPA's, Siearra Nevada makes a great one, and Dog Fish makes a 90min IPA which is awesome.  I just typically dont buy can beer.  I dont know why.

I will post some pictures.

Personally, I would use a beer or soda can over a veggie can because they seem to fit better into the cavity and are typically a little taller so you get a better "footing"

Give a few a try. A lot of the organic breweries up here in the North West are using more cans. Smaller carbon foot print and such. The flavor from an IPA on chicken is wonderful!

The lining was the first thing I thought of too.  If it has one, it might melt or off-gas some nasties....I'm not 100% sure of that but ya never know.  If you have a soda can use that.  Most bev cans are aluminum whereas most food cans are still steel thus the reason for the lining..... IMVHO

I would stick with the beer can.

Veggie cans are lined with something I don't know anything about.

Maybe beer cans are too for all I know?  I do know that many, including myself, have used beer cans for years.  And for different purposes.

Good luck and good smoking.

I have used the bottle with no ill effects. Most of the good beer don't come in a can.Peel the label scrub off the glue and shove it up ,well you know.

I believe there are certain beer cans with liners, I seem to remember there being a commercial where they spoke of some type of a liner in the can so it did not give their beer any unwanted flavors for a selling point

The more I got to thinking about it, I decided to go out and get a Dr. Pepper.  I drank it and but beer in it.  I guess you can say I "chickened" out of the original plan.  This is my first BCC.

I injected it with a mixture of melted butter and agave syrup, then rubbed it with Webbers Canadian

Chicken rub (eh).  I separated the skin from the meat and put rub right on the meat.

I am making a Smoked Chicken Corn Chowder, so I had to be put some corn on too.  I figured I should get a shot of the chicken when I put the corn on.

The corn had a good taste, however the Walmart corn in January sucks, Good thing I am cutting the corn off the cob.  Post of the actual soup are coming to follow.

Looks great. I have used soda and beer when I have done them. I have not noticed any flavor change regardless of what I use. The can and liquid just steams up and evaporates in the cavity. I typically just find the cheapest beer I can find and buy a 12 pack. That way I always have a few cans ready for chickens since no one will drink it!! No sense of using the good stuff to just shove in a chickens......
