I'm not actually even a rookie yet... I'm still shopping for a smoker. I had my first experience watching my nephew do an amazing 12 hour smoke of pork shoulder over Thanksgiving and I want to be able to make that kind of magic myself! He got amazing results with a webber smoker which he likes for it's portability and low cost. I'm leaning toward a primo XL. Obviously mine won't be traveling, and I like the high temp cooking options a ceramic cooker gives me. Any thoughts?

Bob,

Just about any smoker that burns wood or charcoal can achieve high temperatures.  They look like nice grills  that can be used for smoking.   We normally go for Low and Slow but it is nice to have the option of hot and fast

Welcome to the forum,  looking forward to your Qview

Hey Bob, Welcome to SMF.

If your looking at the Primo XL, check out the Big Green Egg. That is the pinnacle of ceramic cookers (IMO) and its around the price range of the Primo. If you have an Ace Hardware close to you, check them out. I think they are about 100 more for the XL Egg. Get a smoker and post some q-view!
