Hi All, SmokingMeat is a great site. I have already learned alot just pokin around.

My name is Tim and live in Upstate New York. I'm just in the process of deciding which smoker I should purchase to being my journey in smokin. I'm thinking either the Master Forge Gas Smoker or the Brinkmann Gas Smoker....looks like the Master Forge has a larger cooking area. Unless you all think I should be concidering another option. I looked online and checked with my local Lowes and if I go with Master Forge I'll have to wait for a month or so until they have stock. Anyone have any other thoughts for a "Virgin Smoker"

Thanks, Tim

Welcome to SMF Tim! Glad to have you aboard!

Would you update your profile info to include your location. Thank-you so much.

If a gas smoker is what you want, you may want to look at a GOSM ( Great Old Smoky Mountain ). There are a lot of GOSM owners on here and they love them.

Hello Tim and

to SMF . Good luck with the smoker decision

Please do us a favor and update your location in your profile

Tim, welcome.

I have a GOSM gasser that I really like.  The controls are simple and the temps stay right where I set them - very important benefit in my book.  I didn't want to be running outside constantly adjusting during the smoke.  They're good units in my opinion.  BTW, GOSM stands for Great Outdoors Smoky Mountain if you're doing a search.

Good luck, let us know which direction you decide on.

Curt.

Virgin smoker eh?  Well good luck finding one of those!

Are you comfortable understanding the differences between wood, charcoal, electric and gas?  That's the first step.  If you are certain you want a gas smoker then I'll let members that use them  make a recommendation.  I'm a wood guy so you can guess where I'm going.

Welcome to SMF glad you can join us.  We are big on Pics and love to help everyone out.  Remember the only question that is dumb is one not asked.  You will not find a friendlier place to talk Que on the web.

You are going to fit in just fine.

The key is like stated above chose the equipment you are comrotable with and learn how to use it.  When you have everything under control smoking wil be fun and easy.

Thanks to ALL, I've updated my profile with my location. As you can see I have a few months of winter to get thru so I have some time to sort things out before I start "SMOKING". I'm not locked into gas......I'd concider  electric also if you think that might be a better option, I just don't think wood would be the way for me to go as time spent tending the smoker will come into play.

Tim

Tim - On the electric front I and many others on here have Masterbuilt Elelctric Smokers (MES). I have an MES 30" I bought at Lowes. You can also find the 40" at Sam's. I  like electric for what I do because I can set the temp and forget it. I generate my smoke with an A-Maze-N Pellet Smoker (AMNPS). It puts out perfect smoke for a long time. Also a digital thermometer is a great investment. Check out Amazen Products on the web for the smoke generator. It is awesome.

Good luck with your upcoming smoking addiction. It can't be helped only fed.
