hi guys i have a question. I just recieved my brinkman vertical smoker and i smoked some pork loin but the temp never seemed to get right because to me the smoker wasnt hot enough. I kept throwing on apple chips and that helped with smoke but the smoker never really get hot the gauge was reading around 150 but never got hotter. what am i doing wrong, please help me.

Thanks for all love, I bought a 5.5
Pd boston butt today to smoke tomorrow any ideas on how to get this baby started. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks man, I have been reading a lot but thanks anyway these post and recipes are great. Im just hoping my boston butt comes out alright I'm putting it on I'll a few minutes.

is that the gauge that on the smoker ? They can be off by 50 or more. (My gauge reads 150 but the smoker will be 225 to 250)

A real good gauge is the MAVERICK ET-732 REMOTE SMOKER THERMOMETER. http://www.amazenproducts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MAVET-732

as far as the Butt make sure you take it to 200 to 205 IT.

First off welcome to SMF. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.
