There have been some ( very few )  vertical offset builds, but (me personally) found that you get more grill area with the horizontal smokers

Welcome to the forum from one scrap-fabber to another!  Let us know how that build comes out and post some pix!

I think part of the reason you don't see so many verticals is because they aren't "traditional" looking. I would like to build one myself someday. Do a search for Stumps clone and that should give you some results like this http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/111152/stumps-clone-build-aka-big-pig-rig

First off welcome to SMF there Clyde. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.
