Thread Starter

Hi All.  My name is wayne & I live in newfoundland canada.   I am definately a newbie....know very little about the process but love the taste.  I just built a small wooden smokehouse aprox "24x32x60". I did a test run today with a 1500w double hot plate but could only reach 130f. outside temp was -6c so Im thinking maby propane burner instead. any help about smokin in cold weather would be apreciated.

Sorry no help on smoking in the cold (Arizona) but i would think the propane burner would do the trick, good luck!

INSULATION... In that cold of weather it won't matter what heat source you use.. with out insulation you'll have a very hard time try'n to get temps up and keep them there... GL

Wayne, welcome to SMF, it's a great place to learn about the smoking addiction.  Can you provide any details on the construction of your smoker?  Photos are always nice to see.

Curt.

First off welcome to SMF there Wayne. You'll really like this place for there are a bunch of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking meat. Then if you have any questions you just post them here or yu can try in chat for a faster answer. If you are really new to all of this I would recommend that you look up and take the e-course. It is free and it will also give you the basics on smoking. So with all that said now go and get something to smoke.

Welcome Wayne.  I'm pretty impressed with what you accomplished in -6c outside temp.  Sounds like cold smoking bacon would be a snap.

Hello Wayne welcome1.gifto SMF. Glad to have you here with us.

On your build question, you might have better responses if you start a new thread in the smoker build section and post some pictures - you will find lots of great help there.
