OK so I got to wondering about putting a heat unit in my brinkman for those times when you just want some more heat! but to pump up the hot coal supply just seems a hassle,
While I was on the job I got inventive about improving its capacity without going to the next step of gutting an old dryer or fridge.
So here's what it used to look like
Essentially I added a 12" box to the top ........ folded light gauge galv done proffessionaly at the place my wifey works
Removed the lid and pop riveted and bolted through the original holes, then a good spray of matt black
I also added castor wheels as it would now be a bit heavier to move by lifting
Heres the 2000 watt heater element in place. I had to unbolt the bottom base section of the door and cut a slot to fit the element
thru ( the round hole in the bottom is just for ventilation ..... I usually place my cold smoker over it for better draught)
So with a smoke stick holder screwed into the new raised hood I can smoke stuff aways up there and still have rack space that is useable and not too close to the heat source
I also added a couple more shelf slots so I'm on the look out for some racks now!
The next step will be to insulate the whole thing probably use ply sheet mounted to slats screwed thru the walls
Thanks for looking
