did a Lil welding on Thursday on the hydraulic tank didn't get that much done ill have some time off in another week so ill hop on

getting the tank buttoned up  putting the Axel and tires on so i can move this beast around

most of the splitters i have seen are short and hard to maneuver in tight spaces long truck short trailer

usually ends in a jack knife situation  there hard to back up

the current trailer is over 10 feet long does anyone see any reasons why i shouldn't leave it long?

from the back

Hopefully it will only be 500/600 lbs with full of hdrolic oil I have a bad habbit of useing things well beyond there engineered limits then rebuild them to take the punishment so with this build im just skipping a step and throwing the beefier parts on ill prolly used it as a press also .......on another note I might be changing the axle the small 8" tires dont looks like they like the weight I may move up to house trailor axles with cars tires

Nice game plan.  I've been using one similar to your build for over 20 yrs.  The only thing I've replaced in all that time were hydraulic hoses and the pump.  Cheap replacements that I got from Northern Tool.  Your build looks great, but I think you will find that your pump and that welded cylinder are gonna be determines what she does on really big logs.  We split a lot of live oak here and man that stuff is tough no matter how much power you have.  I think mine is 11 gpm prince with a 5hp briggs running it.  Always makes me nervous while I'm sitting there next to that rig and the wedge starts groaning and shrieking.

   then BANG when it pops.

well i ended up with a great price on the cylinder from a friend and the pump came with a lil loader i purchased to put on my tractor
are the welded cylinders prone to cracking or breaking ? this one came off a dozer it was used to lift the blade up and down
the cylinder bore is about 3" and shaft size is about 1 7/8 i think i figured at about 25 tons or so

its a budget build
thanks for checking it out Ice Daddy
