I'm new to this site, and enjoy the newsletters and advice from all of you vets on here.  I'm just getting into smoking more and more after living in KC for 18 years and going to the American Royal year after year, and well, I moved to Des Moines a few years back and can't find any truly good BBQ so I figured I'd make my own!  I'm married with 4 kids, and my wife loves pulled pork, so thus far all I've smoked is some pork butts which turned out well and I have tried the bacon wrapped chicken breasts and shrimp from the newsletters also which turned out well.  I'd like and welcome any advice on making the best bbq I can, and someday hope to compete a little bit.  I use a barrel smoker with the offset firebox, but keeping my temps right gets challenging but that's half the fun right? Lol  Anyhow, looking forward to advice from the massive amounts of experienced folks I have seen on here.

Welcome to SMF sounds like you have a good start

Welcome to SMF glad you can join us.  We are big on Pics and love to help everyone out.  Remember the only question that is dumb is one not asked.  You will not find a friendlier place to talk Que on the web.

You are going to fit in just fine..

Best advice is don't be afraid of any cut of meat.  Worst thing that can happen is you have to try it again.  Keep track of your temps and have fun smoking!

Welcome fellow Iowan! Jethro's isn't too shabby in Des Moines but nothing you can't do better yourself at home.

Welcome aboard.

When you get a chance you might want to add your general location in your profile.  Then we will always remember you are from Des Moines.

Hoping you find the forum as helpful as I and many others here have.

Good luck and good smoking.
