Ok as for the PID the black cord you see runs to the heating element out of the PID regulates my element heat. You can see the small wire out the back, that is the thermocoupler for the temp conrtol. and the gray wire is
the plug for the incoming power. Plugs into any 110 outlet.

I have lots of holes where I removed the plastic pegs for holding the shelves some I will reuse but some will need some kind of sealant or plug and I was wondering what you use if any.....Mind frig is a model SS-72. I have no clue what it mean and have been unable to find anything on the internet..
Where did you track down a PID and what did it cost ya? Great job!! Inspired me to try out building one!!

try Auberins.com......they have everything you will need...I dont have it with me but i will post a great site for hooking up your PID later today its at home and i'm at lunch....

Scappy I just used the high temp silicone. I had a friend ask tho, who welded those up. When i told him it was caulk he said know way. I told him I have ran a caulking gun and sealed several thousand miles of caulk. git er dun buddy

I was wondering...Why did you lower the heating element below the floor? Seems grease would collect in there. I am just using a hot plate in mine for now but plan on using one like you have and with the PID.
One reasone was to give me more room in the smoke box for cooking. I have a grease or catch pan that is the perfect size to catch all the drippings without them getting down on the element or in that area. It works great. I did a fatty in it this past week and you know how much grease that will put out. Worked great without any problems

No sir. There is about a 1inch or better gap all the way around it the drip panfrom the side walls of the box.. I tell ya it works like a champ. It sits on a grat about 3 to 4 inches under the pan. I will take a couple of pics for you when I go home for lunch today a post for you to look at.. This thang works great.. I would do it again in a heart beat.
Ok men here you go. they are not the best pics but best I could do. The air space around the grease pan is 1,1/2 " all the way aroud the pan from the side walls.You can see on both sides where there is a white area on the front of each side. This is from air holes i have in the bottom to help with the draft inside the box.
