Hello everyone,

My name is Dennis and I live in Oklahoma City, OK. I just got into smoking and BBQ'ing about 2 days ago. I just ordered my first smoker today: Link

I have been married now for almost 17 years and up untill now my wife has done all the cookin, but due to her school schedule getting really hectic, last year before she graduates, I am shouldering some of the burden (Mainly cooking and wranglin my two boys). Safe to say I can cook breakfast meats on the stove and heat up canned soups, but that's about the extent of my cooking expereince.

We have both become pretty healthy eaters over the last year since we are battling america's well known obesity problem, but once every two weeks we allow ourselves a cheat night were we can eat whatever we want. We both would like BBQ and smoked meat and we both have no idea how to run a smoker, hence why I am here. I would like to learn how to make some mean smoked meat first off and some BBQ'ing later on. Isn't it always better when you make it yourself instead of going to some BBQ joint?

For work I am a Quality Control Inspector for the only cable company in Oklahoma city and the wife has about a year of school left for Physical Therapy. We have two boys ages 10 and 7. For hobbies I like to shoot guns and she likes to drink Margarita's with her girl freinds.

I have started the E-Course for smoking and got the first email on it today. Hopefully it get's me going so next week we can attempt a smoke job on some deer meat I got in the fridge. I plan to be a regular on these forums seeking advice and such as I have little cooking expereince and no smoking experience.

PS.

I haven't browsed recipes yet but if someone can offer up a recipe for a good smoked deer leg that would be fantastic. (That will be my first trial run next week)

Welcome to the SMF, Dennis. There are quite a number of folks here who have access to wild game such as deer and know how to smoke it up.. you might also check out our forum for Wild Game and if you don't see what you are looking for, ask about it there and one of the guys that frequent that area will be able to help you out for sure.

This is a great place to learn so don't be afraid to ask questions and someone will come along and get you an answer.

Glad to have you here!
