Masterbuilt quit working

Anyone ever have any trouble with you Masterbuilt?  Mine was going good for about an hour on a pork butt, and all of a sudden it's not heating anymore.  Tried shutting it down, resetting the heat and time and it's still a no go!!  Was wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem, and if so what did you do to rememdy it??

How old is it?

Some models have had the heating element wires corrode off inside the back of the smoker, but I think that takes a year or more to happen. It's an easy fix, if that is the problem, and directions are on this forum at a number of places.

Other things you could try are unplugging it & plugging it back in.

Also unplugging the digital control wires & plugging them back in.

I am not a watt burner, but as Bear said, there were some wiring problems on some of the older units.  I haven't heard so many of these problems lately with the newer units?

Good luck and good smoking.

Thanks guys, I did a search and found it.  I took the back off and mine pretty much looked like some of the pictures, the terminal had pretty much corroded away.

While you are in the unit ,replace all the terminal;s w/ stainless ones and change the wires to 12 gauge high temp wire . find an old stove or oven to scrounge or go to an appliance repair shop.

My 2 year old MES did the same thing, and I just crimped on an aluminum terminal

So far so good!

If someone could answers some other questions, it would be great.  After looking at some of the other posts, I see that some people have upgraded their heating elements as well.  Mine is only 650w, and I'm wondering since I have it apart should I put a larger one in??  I see people talking about 800 and 1200w's, is this something that I should consider?  I can never get a really good bark on my meat, and alot of time I don't think I get enough smoke, most of the time I'm missing that really good smoke flavor.

Just some other things I'm curious about if there's any more help out there.

Thanks

Others will have to help on the elements.

Some models have 650, some, 800, and some 1200. Some of them can be changed.

As for getting perfect smoke, you gotta look into an AMNPS.

That will fix any smoke problems you can have.
