Been lurking here for a bit and thought I'd better introduce myself. Travis, 31 from central Iowa. I don't actually have a smoker yet, but I have it on good authority that my in-laws have procured a MES30 for me for Christmas. I've been hanging here soaking up as much info as I can. I'm pretty sure my first smoke is going to be at the end of December in central Iowa so that ought to make things interesting. I do have a detached garage that's insulated and I can heat if need be so I'm already thinking about a hood system to vent outside. I stay pretty busy playing drums in a band so that leaves me less time to experiment than I'd like but I plan to attempt some delicious treats any free weekend I get. Lots of good info here....a great resource!

Welcome to the family, Travis!

Being the MES is insulated, it should work fine outdoors in the winter...wind can be a cookers worst enemy, then rain/snow...crap, maybe you do need a roof after-all, cuz water and electricity??? Ha!

Enjoy that new smoker when it arrives!

Eric

Welcome Travis. Sweet on the MES may look into getting me one someday. You'll love smoking once you get into it. I lurked for months then started, and in the last week since I started have smoked 4 out of 7 nights. Lol very addictive.
