Char Griller SFB problems

Hey everyone,


Long time troller here, and I was hoping someone could help me with a small issue I am having with my Char Griller with SFB. My setup is pushing 5 years old, with no mods done. It has been incredibly faithful and I have never had a problem regulating or distributing heat till recently. The metal in the SFB ash tray has started to warp from the heat, and no long closes completely. Now I can't control the heat because to much air is getting in. I was wondering if anybody else has had this issue and what they have done to fix it. I didn't know if there is a way to close the gap (1/3" at one place) or a work around to get the tray to close completely, or to replace the tray. Thanks in advance for your advice.

My brother in law had the same problem and he used a thick fiberglass rope around the inside of the door and just made sure it was firmly against the SFB and that kept the air out.

Try placing a brick on the handle.

If you could post a pic of the closed door, I may be able to offer a suggestion, 


I have three chargrillers, two with SFB's. the oldest approaching 10 years and the newest one this summer.


More than likely you'll have to straighten the door and maybe fix some some warpage in the fire pan. I am a professional autobody repair technician, and I realize that I "adjust" my door to fit just about every time I use it.


An examle, if the gap is at the top right corner. slide open the door, place a block of wood in the center top of the door, (to act as a fulcrum point), and lightly tap in the offending area.  if the gap is in the middle, two blocks on either side for a similiar result. NO fancy hammer needed, a couple of lengths of 2"X4" lumber will do fine.


Remember, the worst thing you can do is bend it more, and have to buy a new tray...

The metal is fairly light and easy to bend.TWEEK it around alittle to get it to fit,heck ya cant hurt it any.Good luck and happy bbq to ya
