gmasterpfautz, that was one great adventure, thank you!  I bow to your skill and ingenuity.  You should be, and I'm sure you are, very proud of your end product.  Walk tall, be proud, for you are the Baron.

It is nice to see young people looking to get into building there own creations. I just want to say you guys did one hell of a job. Very impressive

Ahh yes, the Cajun Microwave.  55 gal drum with a vertical slit in the side and a pig hanging on a chain thrown over a handy tree branch.  Give it a kick now and then until it's done.

I like the plans, not to be redundant ventilating the tanks is highly recommended. The trailer option based on the size and the weight seems to be a good idea. What is the cubic space for cooking? Wood stove gaskets around the edges and nice latches are another suggestion I would throw at you. Giving it a tight seal will make all the difference. Good luck, would love to see pictures of the finished product.

I would suggest 2 things. (1) put the vent stack on the other end of the tank away from the heat source and (2) make sure you do a test run BEFORE the wedding. There is nothing worse than all smoke and no pull.
Veritas they are building a reverse flow here. You can see the heat plate is coming off fire box and they are using the end dome as the return hot air/smoke so it comes across grates to the stack. I imagine the drawing could have shown the flow but it is what I am understanding this to be.

Subvet could you post more pictures of your rig.  I have one extremely old cooker like that but currently have two tanks to build a couple more.  My old one is on deaths door with rust holes and it has too big of a fire box in my opinion.  Want to make sure I do the the next couple right.

This project is amazing, I want one. I wonder if anyone at the local 'Men's Shed' could teach me to cut and weld?

Sure take a welding course   you will posting your smoker build on here in no time.

Unfortunately, here on King Island (population approx' 1400) we don't have the availability of these courses. Wish there was more. Most people here learn on a need to know basis from who ever can show them how. Luckily, my father believed in everyone, male of female, should be taught 'living skills', so gave us confidence to try anything, unfortunately he died when I was 12 years old so I didn't get the chance to learn as much as I would have liked to have learned from him.
